HP Insight Dynamics- VSE for ProLiant Installation and Configuration Guide
You can deploy the VMM Agent manually or from HP SIM. This section includes instructions for various
methods of deploying agents.
All the communications in Virtual Machine Management Pack use SSL digital certificates that are dynamically
generated at the time of registering virtual machine host using the register agent feature of Virtual Machine
Management Pack. To successfully communicate between the CMS and a virtual machine host or from one
virtual machine host to another, the system date on the CMS and virtual machine hosts must be in sync.
For all nonembedded virtual machine hosts, if the VMM Agent is not installed on a host, then Virtual Machine
Management Pack functionality is not available. Nonembedded hosts include all virtualization technologies
other than HP integrated VMware ESXi, HP integrated Citrix XenServer, and Hyper-V. For a complete list,
see the
Virtual Machine Management Pack Support Matrix
.
For virtual machine hosts with an embedded hypervisor, no VMM Agent deployment is required, and the
virtual machine host is managed without an agent.
For HP SIM 5.3, Virtual Machine Management Pack leverages the Configure and Repair Agents (CRA)
functionality from HP SIM, which enables the plug-ins to deploy the agents. You must provide entries in the
username and password boxes (if the user on the managed node is a nonroot user) on the HP SIM CRA tool
as parameters for Virtual Machine Management Pack Tool. These parameters are used to deploy the
appropriate VMM Agent to the hypervisors. For Virtual Machine Management Pack to deploy agents through
CRA, the following must occur:
• SSH must be preconfigured or configured through HP SIM before invoking the VMM Agent installation
through CRA.
• The credentials passed must be common across hosts.
Configuring VMware VirtualCenter
NOTE: Any user signed in to HP SIM as operator, must be enabled by the system administrator to configure
the VirtualCenter Settings in HP SIM by having authorization to execute the tools on the CMS as well.
To configure VMware VirtualCenter, select Options→Virtual Machine Management→ Security→VMware
VirtualCenter Settings.
This configuration is required for Live Move, which uses VMotion™ Technology.
Virtual Machine Management Pack supports VirtualCenter Version 1.
x
and 2.
x
. However, you can register
only one version of VirtualCenter at a time.
1. Select the appropriate version of VirtualCenter.
2. To perform operations such as copy, move, Live Move, and prefailure events on the HP integrated
VMware ESX Server 3i host, you must configure VirtualCenter.
