HP TopTools Software Components
The HP TopTools software described in this document includes:
HP NetServer Agent Software: HP Simple Network Management
Protocol (SNMP) based agent software works behind the scenes to identify
changes in the HP NetServer status. When a monitored operation on the
server exceeds a pre-defined threshold, a notice is relayed over the network
using SNMP software (installed at both the HP NetServer and console).
Required for HP TopTools Auto Alert and HP TopTools Integrated
Device Manager.
HP DMI Software: If you use asset management software on your
network that requires DMI 2.0, you can install DMI 2.0 service layer
software on your HP NetServers systems that support DMI. The DMI
component is installed when the NetServer Agents are installed.
Instant TopTools Software: You can view alert and device information
from an HP NetServer monitored by Instant TopTools. Instant TopTools is
automatically installed on your Windows NT servers when doing the initial
server setup using the Installation Assistant utility on the HP NetServer
Navigator CD-ROM.
Note that Instant TopTools does not require the HP NetServer Agent
software to function. However, installing the HP NetServer Agent software
allows Instant TopTools to obtain more events that describe the state of
your server's installed hardware components.
On Microsoft Windows NT or 2000 servers, you need the Microsoft
Internet Explorer (2.0, 4.x or later) or Netscape Navigator (4.x or later)
browser to use the Instant TopTools software. There is no Instant TopTools
version available for Novell NetWare/IntranetWare or SCO UNIX servers.
HP TopTools Auto Alert Software: You can use this feature to alert you
to problems with your NetServers. This tool will also link with HP
TopTools Integrated Device Manager (if installed) to launch your web
browser to see the HP TopTools web pages.
