5. Install any firmware updates.
6. Install and configure Oracle Linux and Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel using the installation
procedure described in the Oracle documentation. For more information about the

Completing the Installation
After you have installed Oracle Linux and Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel using one of the previously
described options, you can now register your product with Oracle and receive any updates that
are available, see “Registering the system, installing and updating the Unbreakable Enterprise
Kernel from Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network” (page 9).
After you install Oracle Linux and Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel using any of the installation
methods, HP encourages you to install and use the server management tools that are provided in
the HP Support Pack.
Registering the system, installing and updating the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel from Oracle
Unbreakable Linux Network
Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is released with Oracle Linux or released on Oracle Unbreakable
Linux Network (ULN) separately. Ensure you have the most current version of software from the
Oracle Linux Network, including patches for bug fixes, using the following instructions:
1. In order to get access to ULN you must have a valid support subscription, which you can
purchase online from the Oracle Linux Store.
2. Install Oracle Linux on your system and reboot.
3. Log in as root on the console.
4. Run the uln_register command, log in to ULN with your user account to register your
system. You can use the uln_register command only on OL6.x and the updated command
can be used on OL5.x.
5. After your system is registered with ULN, you must subscribe the system to the Unbreakable
Enterprise Kernel channel for your distribution in ULN.
6. Communication between your system and the Oracle Unbreakable Linux Network server
begins by determining the installed software packages, and optionally, the hardware, doing
the update.
7. Run yum update command on your system console to initiate the process with the Oracle
Unbreakable Linux Network, install the available updates.
NOTE: Oracle ensures all information transferred is treated as private and confidential. By default,
all data sent and received over the network uses the secure sockets layer (SSL).
