1 Support for Oracle Linux and Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel This support note provides the additional installation and support information for the use of Oracle Linux and Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (also called as UEK) on HP DL980 servers. This chapter provides the support and certification information related to Oracle Linux and Unbreakable Kernel on HP DL980 servers.
HP Proliant support pack for Oracle Linux HP ProLiant Support Pack for Oracle Linux is a collection of software packages and can be used to update drivers, agents, and other support software for DL980 server. HP has performed qualification testing with this software on DL980 with selected OL version. HP does not warranty this ProLiant Support Pack or provide support. HP provides this ProLiant Support Pack AS-IS. For more information, see:http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ SoftwareDescription.
2 Installing operating system This chapter describes how to prepare your server for operating system (OS) installation, install the Oracle Linux and UEK on your HP DL980 server, and obtain OS update directly from Oracle. Installation preparation Before you begin installing OL and UEK on your HP DL980 server, ensure that you have obtained: • all necessary installation documentation.
5. 6. Install any firmware updates. Install and configure Oracle Linux and Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel using the installation procedure described in the Oracle documentation. For more information about the documentation, see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/index.html.
3 Recommendations, Limitations, and Known Issues This chapter contains recommendations, limitations, and known issues with the use of Oracle Linux and Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel on HP DL980 servers. Recommendations The following recommendations from HP for using Oracle Linux and Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel on HP DL980 servers should be observed.
the console to use a higher baud rate at boot time or in the grub.conf file. For example, “console=ttyS1,115200”. • IO error reports when iSCSI service start (OL5.8) When booting from the LUN of a hardware iSCSI initiator HBA, the system will find the rootfs, but when the iSCSI service starts up, many input/output errors may be reported. When this occurs, the rootfs will become read only, and a user cannot login to the system.
Others: • The utility system-config-kdump may not work for UEK (OL5.8) The tool system-config-kdump may not create the correct “crashkernel” parameters for crash dump. To enable crash dump, the crashkernel parameter may be appended manually. For example, crashkernel=512M. • Brocade cards initializes failed during the crash dump (OL5.8) When triggering the kdump in the base kernel (2.6.18-308.el5) of OL5.8, the Brocade cards cannot be initialized correctly.
