Using HP OpenView Operations and Gallery Smart Plug Ins
HP enhances the Open Source and Middleware Stacks (OSMS) by using HP OpenView Operations
(OVO) Gallery Smart Plug-Ins (SPIs). HP OVO is a distributed, client/server software solution
designed to provide service-driven event and performance management of business-critical
enterprise systems, applications, and services.
Overview
NOTE: Connexitor Directory Services (CDS) has been renamed to Symas Open LDAP Directory
Services (Symas OpenLDAP) and is referred to as such for the remainder of this document.
However, the naming convention for CDS Smart Plug Ins (SPIs) has not changed.
The SPIs for the JBoss Application Server, MySQL, Symas OpenLDAP, and Tomcat are value-add
software components for HP OVO. They are provided free to all customers of HP OVO for use
under the terms and conditions as documented on the website. These SPIs provide powerful,
centralized tools to monitor and manage the operation of multiple installations of JBoss, MySQL,
Symas OpenLDAP or Tomcat servers on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) and Red Hat
Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
The SPI components include the following:
• Policies that are designed to monitor log files and key health parameters of the JBoss
Application Server, MySQL, Symas OpenLDAP, and Tomcat.
• Policies that allow you to monitor the overall availability of the JBoss Application Server,
MySQL, Symas OpenLDAP, and Tomcat.
• Tools that let you run commands on the managed JBoss Application Server, MySQL, Symas
OpenLDAP, and Tomcat installations.
Figure 1 displays the SPI architecture and OVOW components.

Installation
Software Prerequisites and Reference Guides
Before attempting to install the SPIs, verify that you have a functional HP OVOW 7.5 installation,
including an HP OVOW Management Console and the Linux OVO SPI agents for the JBoss
Application Server, MySQL, Symas OpenLDAP, and Tomcat. In addition, the following OVOW
patches are required:
