Technical white paper | HP AppSystem for Virtual SAP HANA
• HP D2700 disk enclosure with twenty-five 300GB small form factor disk drives configured as a single file system for a
total of 7.5TB (5.46 TB usable space) for HANA data
• HP P410i with 512MB flash-backed write cache internal disk storage controller
• Two 300GB internal SAS disks in RAID 1 (mirrored) configuration (274 GB effective internal storage) for VMwareESXi
Hypervisorand the four provided virtual machine templates
• Two HP NC550 SFP Dual-port 10GbE network interface card
• HP NC357T Quad-port 1GbE network interface card
SAP HANA server key software components
The software components for the SAP HANA database server diverge slightly from the HP AppSystem SAP HANA large,
single-node appliance configuration. An HP specific VMware ESXi hypervisor is added as the base on which you install the
rest of the system software. This base software includes drivers and firmware specific to the appliance. The following list
shows the remainder of the software, which is the same that is hosted on the large, single-node appliance:
• HP VMware ESXi (a bare-metal hypervisor that runs directly on the hardware)
• Virtual machine instance of SAP HANA running on the hypervisor
• HP Insight & System Insight Management Agents (system management)
A virtual machine instance is generated from a template. Each template is configured to include:
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2 for HANA
• SAP HANA SP05 Rev51
• SAP HANA Studio
• System, data, and log storage assignments
• Required network connections
Prerequisites
The deployment and configuration instructions assume that the HP AppSystem for Virtual SAP HANA is installed by HP
service teams, connected to your network, and that you have been shown the operational components, their location, how
to address them, and how to log in, and also are prepared to provide the following information:
• Management system IP and login information
• vCenter login information
• vSphere login information
• HANA Studio login information
• Root password for virtual machines
• HANA system administrator user ID
• HANA administration password
• SSL Keystore password
• Database user SYSTEM password
• Network Information for the ESXi Host Server, HP AppSystem Virtual HANA, Virtual Machines:
– Fully qualified hostnames for each virtual machine
Important
It is critical to utilize fully qualified hostnames for the proper functioning of your HANA environment.
– Each virtual machine, by default, has two virtual network interfaces
– Subnet mask
– Primary and secondary DNS addresses
– Gateway address
• HANA system identifiers (SID), each virtual machine needs a unique SID
• HANA instance identifiers (HID), each HANA instance needs a unique HID
