HP AppSystems for Virtualized SAP HANA

Technical white paper | HP AppSystem for Virtual SAP HANA
Providing development and testing
flexibility for SAP HANA through
virtualization
HP AppSystems for Virtualized SAP HANA is a development and test
environment that is hosted in a VMware ESXi hypervisor environment. Multiple
virtual machine instances that host SAP HANA may be run simultaneously on an
HP DL980c G7 ProLiant Server to simplify test and development iteration cycles
and reduce the number of machines required to host these environments.
Introduction
The Virtualized HP AppSystem for SAP HANA appliance is a pre-configured and pre-installed state-of-the-art virtualized
development and test environment for SAP HANA In-memory database that has the following benefits:
Provides a system pre-installed and pre-configured with VMware ESXi hypervisor and one pre-configured virtual machine
Provides four different sizes of Virtual Machine Templates with SAP HANA that are already installed for ease of creating
new virtual machines
Provides multiple test and development environments on a single-node appliance
Includes all the benefits of the appliance model
Achieves a better TCO by improved resource utilization
Saves snapshot of test and development environments for later retrieval
Includes the ability to roll back to an earlier state
Speeds deployment of HANA test and development systems
Included with the appliance are Open Virtual Machine Format (OVF) templates. These templates contain all the necessary
software to run the SAP HANA in-memory database in a virtualized environment. This environment contains the operating
system configured and tuned for HANA, the installed HANA software, and includes networking and storage for optimum
performance of this environment. As part of the assembly, configuration, and installation of the appliance, the system has
been through all the steps to deploy one virtual machine environment. All the preparation is complete, and you can now
deploy additional virtual machines as your needs dictate.
This guide covers the following topics:
Deployment of additional pre-configured Open Virtual Machine Format (OVF) templates
Configuration of virtual machine hardware, options, and resources
This document describes the steps necessary to provision additional virtual machines from pre-configured templates
provided with the appliance. For more information on provisioning ESXi virtual machines, see the vSphereVirtual Machine

This pre-installed and pre-configured environment requires three main hardware components that are necessary to host
these virtual machine images, the VMware ESXi Host Server, the storage disk enclosure, and the management station.
