Technical white paper | HP AppSystem for Virtual SAP HANA Providing development and testing flexibility for SAP HANA through virtualization HP AppSystems for Virtualized SAP HANA is a development and test environment that is hosted in a VMware ESXi hypervisor environment. Multiple virtual machine instances that host SAP HANA may be run simultaneously on an HP DL980c G7 ProLiant Server to simplify test and development iteration cycles and reduce the number of machines required to host these environments.

Technical white paper | HP AppSystem for Virtual SAP HANA A management station is required to host and run the VMware vCenter management and vSphere Client software and SAP HANA Studio software; this software is required to manage the virtual images and templates and the SAP HANA database. The management station is an optional item on the appliance order because some sites may already have a system capable of hosting the required software and function.

This document shows the use of /etc/hosts, but the use of DNS is just as appropriate; use what is appropriate at your site and verify that the HANA Virtual Machine server systems have a consistent IP addresses for name resolution.

The Deploy OVF Template wizard appears. • Enter the URL for the desired OVF template and click Next. Use the follow examples, as appropriate for your template. Note It takes approximately four hours for the hana64 template to complete. The status bar shows the progress. This process can proceed faster if the template (ova) files are copied directly onto the vCenter management server.

Note Hard disk 1 and 2 always go on datastorelarge (the D2700 storage holds the system disks and the HANA data disk.) Hard disk 3 to 6 map over the I/O accelerator (FUSIONIO) cards, based on the availability of space on those devices, as a striped set for the the HANA log area.

The progress of the task appears in the vSphere Client Status panel. • In the vSphere Client, right click on the newly created virtual machine, click Power and then click On. • In the vSphere Client, right click on the newly created virtual machine and click Open Console.

Use the Tab key to move between fields and enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Fully Qualified Hostname for the virtual NICs. Press F10 when done. • If needed, repeat all the tasks under step 13 for the second interface. • To save the configuration and exit, press F10, F10, and F9. • Verify that the fully qualified hostname is set with both the hostname and domain.
