Distributed Systems Administration Utilities V1.4 Release Notes for Linux March 2007

1 Distributed Systems Administration Utilities Release Notes
These Release Notes describe the features of Distributed Systems Administration Utilities (DSAU)
for the Linux March 2007 release, and any known issues.
Distributed Systems Administration Utilities provide several tools for simplifying the management
of groups of systems and Serviceguard clusters.
DSAU consists of three primary components:
Configuration synchronization tools - provide policy-based configuration management for
groups of systems and Serviceguard clusters.
Consolidated logging tools - provide centralized logging and advanced log filtering features.
Specific support is provided for creating a highly available log consolidation server using
Serviceguard.
Command fanout tools - provide high performance tools for executing shell commands and
distributing files across groups of systems and Serviceguard clusters.
Each of these components is based on an open source product:
Configuration synchronization uses the Configuration Engine (cfengine)
Consolidated logging uses Syslog Next Generation (syslog-ng)
Command fanout uses Parallel Distributed Shell (pdsh)
The following table lists the specific open source versions included with this release of DSAU.

General Release Notes
This release of DSAU includes the most recent version of cfengine. The source distribution for
cfengine is included as part of DSAU. This source distribution is located in
/opt/dsau/src/cfengine. The source distribution includes the changelog describing the
cfengine enhancements since 2.1.15.
Features
The DSAU open source components include support for long usernames and long hostnames.
Note that this support is not backward compatible. For example, if a system has a long
hostname and the system is also a cfengine managed client, this client cannot be managed
by a master server running an older version of cfengine because the older version of cfengine
does not support long hostnames.
Both the Consolidated Logging Wizard (clog_wizard(1M)) and the Configuration
Synchronization Wizard (csync_wizard(1M)) can be launched from the menus in Systems
Insight Manager (SIM) or System Management Homepage (SMH).
