Windows software installation options
The printing-system software can be used with the product in the following configurations:

Direct Connection. Install the printing-system software on a computer that is directly connected
to the product through a USB port and running Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows
XP, or Windows Vista.
In this configuration, the product is not shared. A single user has complete physical control over
the product. In this configuration, access is available to all of the product features.

Network connection using onboard networking. Install the printing-system software on a
computer that is running Windows 2000, Windows Server 20003, Windows XP, or Windows Vista
and that has access to a local area network (LAN) to which the product is also connected . Network
models have onboard networking that connects to a LAN through a RJ-45 port.
The following elements are required for a networked product:

An installed network that uses the TCP/IP network protocol

A cable for the type of network connection (not included)
Animated getting started guide (eGSG)
When you insert the printing-system software CD into the CD-ROM drive, the animated installation guide
starts automatically. The Begin Setup screen appears.
