HP LaserJet 2300 printer - External Software Technical Reference

the Add Printer Wizard uses the pre-existing bidirectional communication software to configure the printer driver. If
bidirectional communication software has not been installed, EAC installs the bidirectional communication
software. It communicates with the printer and automatically matches the printer driver with the actual printer
configuration. EAC is activated only once to use the autoconfiguration utility, and is then shut off. The files
required to install EAC remain on your system.
Note
When you use the Add Printer wizard to install drivers, you must select the HP LaserJet model that corresponds
to your printer. The Add Printer wizard installs the driver using the correct settings for the model without
communicating with the printer. If you do not select the model that corresponds to your printer, the driver settings
will not match the actual printer.
HP Driver Preconfiguration is a software architecture and set of tools that permits HP software to be customized
and distributed in managed corporate printing environments. Using HP Driver Preconfiguration, information
technology (IT) administrators in corporate and enterprise environments can preconfigure the printing and device
defaults for HP printer drivers before installing the drivers in the network environment. For more information, see
the HP Driver Preconfiguration Support Guide, which is available at the following Web site:

HP Embedded Web Server
The HP Embedded Web Server (EWS) contains the following components:
embedded virtual machine for Java (TM) applications
Web pages
storage space
The HP Embedded Web Server is a standard feature for the HP LaserJet 2300 printer.
The HP Embedded Web Server provides a simple, easy-to-use solution for one-to-one printer management. In offices
that have a limited number of printers, remote management of printing devices can be accomplished without installing
any management software, such as HP Web JetAdmin. The only requirement is that the management console have a
supported Web browser.
In environments that have a larger number of printers, where one-to-one management is impractical, the
HP Embedded Web Server and HP Web JetAdmin work together to provide scalable remote printer management.
HP Web JetAdmin is used for consolidated management tasks, where operations are performed on a selected set of
printers instead of on individual printers. For such environments, HP has provided hooks between the HP Embedded
Web Server and HP Web JetAdmin so that EWS features can be configured on multiple printers in one operation. For
example, the security password for the HP Embedded Web Server can be set on a population of printers
simultaneously.
