Installation and upgrade notes
Following are installation and upgrade note for iLO 3 v 1.00.
Installation notes
Install the firmware using one of these options:
• Run the component on the host to be updated.
The component updates the iLO 3 firmware and resets the iLO 3 processor.
• Extract the firmware from the component.
The component places the firmware image file, iLO 3_yyy.bin (where yyy represents
the firmware version) into the target directory.
When the firmware is extracted, you have the following options:
— Log in to iLO 3, navigate to the Update Firmware page, and update the firmware from
that page.
— Use the HP Lights-Out Configuration Utility, CPQLOCFG, and RIBCL/XML scripts to
update iLO 3 across the network.
— Use the HP Online Lights-Out Configuration utility, HPONCFG, and RIBCL/XML
scripts to update iLO 3 from the supported host OS.
— Use the Directory Migration Utility, contained in the HP Directories support for
Management Processors, available under Software and Drivers on the iLO 3 downloads
page from http://www.hp.com.
The Windows utility supports network discovery of lights-out processors, import and
export functions, bulk firmware updates, and does not require directory migration.
Upgrade notes
(Optional) - If your system is affected by one of the documented fixes, or you want to use any
of the enhanced functionality provided by this version, then update to this version. This is the
initial release of the 1.00 firmware for iLO 3. This firmware is intended for iLO 3 only. This
firmware is not compatible with iLO 2 or the first generation iLO.
The following features are part of the iLO 2 product, but are not currently in the iLO 3 product.
These features will be added to iLO 3 in a future release.
• HP SIM Single Sign-On
• Encrypted Scripted Virtual Media
The following features are not currently in the iLO 3 product. These features will be added to
iLO 3 in a future release:
• IPMI Serial Over LAN support
• Two-factor authentication
• Remote kernel debugging
