If the file is found:
• The put command transfers the file to iLO 2
• The image validates
• The flash process begins
If the file is not found:
• Some versions of the put command do not display an error message
NOTE: If the directory path includes spaces, enclose the path and filename in quotes.
After the firmware image transfers, the recovery payload calculates the check sum, validates the
digital signature, and reports if the image is valid. The flash reprogram begins if the image is valid,
and the flash progress is reported to the client.
NOTE: This process takes a few seconds while the recovery payload decrypts the stored hash
and computes a hash for the image to compare against. If the image is valid, the FTP server begins
programming the image into the flash portion, and provides status updates.
When completed, the flash recovery payload module disconnects and reboots the iLO 2 processor.
If the flash recovery process is unsuccessful, start the process again, and watch the progress for
any errors. You might have to use a different firmware image for the process.
Recovering from a bad iLO 2 flash image using the HP Smart Update Firmware DVD
Use the following procedure to recover iLO 2 from a bad flash upgrade using the firmware DVD
9.00, and iLO 2 1.81:
1. Set the iLO 2 Security Override Switch on the system board to On. The location of the switch
is printed on a label located on the inside of the hood cover.
2. Power the server on and boot using the Smart Update Firmware DVD version 9.00. The ISO
image is available for download from the following website at http://www.hp.com/go/
foundation
3. At the boot menu, select Interactive Firmware Update version 9.00.
4. After the Select Language screen displays, enter the following key strokes to exit the HP Smart
Update Manager:
NOTE: A command prompt displays on top of the HP Smart Update Manager window (the
command prompt takes approximately 30 seconds to appear).
CTRL+ALT+d+b+x (press and hold the CTRL and ALT keys while typing d b x).
5. At the command prompt, navigate to the Smart Update Firmware DVD directory containing
the supplemental iLO 2 firmware update by using the following command:
cd /mnt/cdrom/hp/swpackages
6. To unload the HPILO module, enter the command:
rmmod hpilo
7. To execute the iLO 2 firmware update in direct mode, enter the command:
sh CP012108.scexe --direct
(this parameter requires two dash (--) characters)
8. After the iLO 2 firmware upgrade completes, power the server off and set the iLO 2 Security
Override Switch on the system board to Off.
