HP StorageWorks Reference Information Storage System V1.5 Administrator Guide (T3559-96044, June 2006)

Example: Recovering the server from a disaster
This example is based on the previous example, assuming that the backup server was destroyed and
hastoberebuiltfromthemediathatisstoredoff-site(TAPE.2and3,therecoveryplanfile).Tosimulate
destructio
n of the backup server, simply reinstall it after you remove the two remaining volumes (TAPE.1
and 4) from t
he server and establish a fr esh system.
Before you continue, make sure that you have the two volumes that contain the storage pool and
database backup, and the recovery plan file.
1. Reinstall the backup server.
Use the bac
kup server installation media to reinstall the operating system and Tivoli Storage
Manager so
ftware as described in the RISS I nstallation Guide in “Optional backup server. (Your
HP servic
e representative has this document.) Perform all of the steps to create a working, fresh
installa
tion of the TSM server.
NOTE:
When inst
alling the new backup server do not use the commands /usr/local/
tsmBackup/configTiv init|del.
2. Recover the server.
a. Copy the recovery plan file back to the backup server, into the directory:c:\tsmbackup.
b. Connect to the backup server through VNC and op en a command prompt.
c. Run the following command to split the recovery plan file into instructions, command files a nd
TSM macros. (Replace <recoveryPlanFile.txt> with the actual file name.)
C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\server>cscript planexpl.vbs
c:\tsmbackup\<recoveryPlanFile.txt>
d. Familiarize yourself with the files that were created.
e. Place the two volumes with the backup data, TAPE.3 and 2 (note the order) , in the library.
f. Add or modify the following two comments in the file RECPLAN.DEVICE.CONFIGURA-
TION.FILE, so that TSM can find the backup media for restoring the database. (See the TSM
Administrator’s Guide, Automated SCSI Library at the O riginal and Recovery Sites, p age 788.):
/* LIBR ARYINVENTORY SCSI LIB.TAPE TAPE.3 11 102*/
/* LIBRARYINVENTORY SCSI LIB.TAPE TAPE.2 12 102*/
g. Stop the TSM server by using the TSM Management Console.
Expand the tree: TSM > TSM Server1 > Reports > Service Information.
h. Right-click the service name, and select Stop.
i. Open a command prompt, change to the directory c:\tsmbackup, and run:
RECPLAN.RECOVERY.SCRIPT.DISASTER.RECOVERY.MODE.CMD
This restores the database from the tape and starts the server in a new window. It also registers
the licenses and marks as destroyed the volumes that remain on the server.
j. Run the following command to ensure that the TSM database is consistent with the library
volumes:
INTERNAL>audit library LIB.TAPE command
k. Check in and label two empty volumes, which will be used to restore the storage pools.
See Adding and labeling new media (command line) on page 104.
l. To restore the storage pool, run the command:
110
