HP Adaptive Infrastructure Solution Security for BladeSystem Matrix
you can plug-in these services into some hypervisors providing individual traffic control and virus
scanning even if the VM guests do not utilize these services.
Additionally, the snapshot capability of virtual machines can be used to restore functionality to a
known good state if an attack occurs on a virtual machine.
Managing logical servers
The BladeSystem Matrix solution is designed to meet the real world needs, which often requires
management of more than one, if not numerous, virtualization solutions. The BladeSystem Matrix
solution approach integrates a large variety of virtualization components including VMware,
Microsoft Hyper-V, HP Integrity Virtual Machines, HP vPars, HP nPars, and HP Bladesystem c-Class
enclosures with Virtual Connect. The BladeSystem Matrix solution takes advantage of the logical
server capabilities of Insight Dynamics – VSE suite for ProLiant. This means that you do not need to
learn the unique aspects of each virtualization mechanism, but rather can use the BladeSystem Matrix
management paradigm to manage them.
HP Insight Control, HP Insight Dynamics – VSE suite for ProLiant, and the extensions HP Insight
Recovery and HP Insight Orchestration build upon each other in the Matrix solution to provide logical
server (both physical and virtual machine) management.
The Virtual Machine Management Pack (VMM) component of Insight Control extends HP Systems
Insight Manager capabilities to manage virtual machines. VMM provides central management and
control of VMware ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V, Xen virtual machines with physical host to virtual machine
association, highly flexible move capabilities that allows live moves (for some platforms), and back
up, template and alternate host capabilities that enable restoration of VMs on any available host. The
Server Migration Pack component adds migrations between dissimilar physical and hypervisor
platforms.
While VMM provides management of virtual machines, the HP Insight Dynamics – VSE suite for
ProLiant supports a level of abstraction by allowing you to manage logical servers, which you can
instantiate as virtual machines or c-Class blades using HP Virtual Connect and boot-from-SAN. HP
Insight Dynamics – VSE suite for ProLiant is advanced infrastructure management software that
enables the continuous analysis and optimization of physical and virtual resources in a common way
and provides an easy to use and clear depiction of logical server properties and tools to perform
logical server manipulations. This straightforward layout helps to continuously control and optimize
the logical server infrastructure, reduce complexity, add clarity, and reduce the probability of
inadvertent configuration errors resulting in security issues. It also enables a separation of roles
between the administrator of the physical hardware and the operating system administrator.
HP Insight Dynamics – VSE suite for ProLiant takes advantage of HP Virtual Connect to bring the
flexibility of virtualization to a physical environment. Insight Dynamics – VSE suite for ProLiant also
includes HP Server Migration software for server migration capabilities across physical and virtual
resources, and can be extended with optional
Insight Orchestration capabilities for automated
provisioning, and with
Insight Recovery for disaster recovery.
The HP Insight Orchestration option for HP Insight Dynamics – VSE suite for ProLiant enables IT
organizations to provision infrastructure consistently and automatically from pools of shared resources
using a self-service portal. Resources provisioned can range from a single virtual machine to complex
multi-tier environments with physical and virtual servers, storage, and network requirements. HP Insight
Orchestration lets you visually design your infrastructure services and rapidly provision using
automation and streamlined approval processes. It integrates with existing IT management tools and
processes using an embedded workflow automation tool. You can orchestrate across various roles
and functions, such as architects, server administrators, network administrators, storage
administrators, and operations teams to make the infrastructure delivery process fast, efficient, and
