HP Insight Remote Support 7.0.9 Monitored Devices Configuration Guide

Chapter 12: Configuring Integrity Superdome 2
Servers
The Superdome 2 system complex has two independent interfaces that report event indications: the HP-
UX partitions and the Superdome 2 Onboard Administrator (OA). HP-UX System Fault Manager (SFM)
monitors the IO devices within the partition domain and generates WBEM indications when it determines
an important event has occurred. The OA monitors the remainder of the system hardware and generates
WS-Management indications when it determines that an important event occurs. To enable complete
system monitoring, both the OA and the partitions must be monitored.
The HP-UX partitions and the OA can be discovered and monitored as individual components or by using
OA functionality included in firmware bundle 3.6.44 and later. The OA can be configured to proxy HP-UX
SFM WBEM indications and by doing so be the sole source for event reporting for the entire system
complex. However, because Insight RS still needs to connect to the partitions to support configuration
collections, the HP-UX partitions must still be discovered by Insight RS regardless of the method used to
monitor the system for event indications.
The Superdome 2 OA can be configured to send alert messages using email, SNMP or WS-Man
indications. While email can be used to directly notify your IT staff or SNMP can be used to send Traps to
enterprise management applications (such as HP OpenView), Insight RS requires that WS-Man be used
for event monitoring.
Important: If you upgraded from Insight RS 7.0.5, Superdome 2 servers were not supported in
version 7.0.5. If you discovered your Superdome 2 servers in version 7.0.5 they appeared as
unknown devices in the Insight RS Console. After you upgrade to version 7.0.9, they appear
correctly as Superdome 2 servers, but Insight RS cannot monitor them until you complete the
steps below and rediscover the Superdome 2 server.
Fulfill Configuration Requirements
To configure your Integrity Superdome 2 servers to be monitored by Insight RS, complete the following
steps:
Task Completed?
Make sure Insight RS supports your Integrity Superdome 2 server by checking the HP
Insight Remote Support Release Notes.
Verify Superdome 2 network settings and protocol status.
Add the WBEM protocol to the Insight RS Console.
Add the WS-Man protocol to the Insight RS Console.
Discover the Superdome 2 server in the Insight RS Console.
Verify the Superdome 2 and the partitions were discovered correctly.
Send a test event to verify connectivity to the Hosting Device.
