Configuring Printers
Insight Remote Support (RS) communicates with printers using SNMP, HTTP, and Printer Credentials.
Both are pre-installed on supported printers.
Fulfill Configuration Requirements
Complete the following steps to configure your Printers to be monitored by Insight RS.

Make sure Insight RS supports your printer by checking the HP Insight Remote Support
Release Notes.
Configure SNMP on the printer.
Add the SNMP protocol to the Insight RS Console.
Create Printer Credentials protocol credentials in the Insight RS Console.
Discover the printer in the Insight RS Console.
Configure warranty and contract information in the Insight RS Console.
Verify connectivity between your printer and Insight RS.

Configure SNMP on the Printer
The printer must be configured properly for Insight RS to communicate with it. The following printer setup
recommendations make sure that Insight RS can communicate with the printer. SNMP can be set up
using either SNMPv1/v2 or SNMPv3. Follow the section below for the version of SNMP you choose to
use.
Configure SNMPv1/v2 on the Printer
To configure SNMPv1/v2 on the printer, complete the following steps:
1. If administrative authorization has been configured in the printer's embedded web server, select or
clear the Use the Administrator Password as the Set Community Name check box. HP
recommends you do not check this box use a different SNMPv1/2 GET and SET community name
than the administrator password.
a. In the printer's embedded web server, browse to the Networking Authorization Admin.
