Chapter 32: Configuring Provision-based Networking Switches
1. Type the config command to enable the global configuration mode:
# config
2. Type the crypto command to generate an RSA key pair, which includes one public RSA key and one
private RSA key.
# crypto key generate ssh rsa
Enable SSH
You only need to enable SSH if you want to use it instead of Telnet. If you choose to use Telnet, you can
skip this section.
To enable SSH, execute the following commands from the switch command line:
1. Type the config command to enable the global configuration mode:
# config
2. Enable the SSH server:
# ip ssh
3. Type the write memory command to save the configuration changes:
# write mem

Verify Telnet/SSH Communication
To verify that Telnet or SSH communication is working properly, do the following:
1. From the Hosting Device, connect to the Provision-based switch using the protocol you want to
verify. Wait until the connection is established.
2.
Type the username and password when prompted. If any of the following messages do occur then, it
is treated to be a login failure:

Login incorrect
n
User authorization failure
n
Invalid login name
n
Too many users logged on already
3. When the banner or login data is received, send a carriage return (\n) to make sure that the host is
ready.
4.
Type the exit command to disconnect.
Configure SNMP Communication
To verify that SNMP communication is working properly, do the following:
