2 Installation and Configuration of HP SIM and Insight
Remote Support Advanced
This section includes both pointers to the HP SIM and Insight Remote Support Advanced documents
for installing and configuring HP SIM and Insight Remote Support Advanced and a list of
NonStop-Specific Tasks to be performed at particular points during the installation and configuration
process. Be sure to consult the NonStop-Specific Tasks section as you install and configure HP SIM
and Insight Remote Support Advanced, for the appropriate time to perform those additional tasks.
NonStop-Specific Tasks
This procedure applies to all HP NonStop S-series systems, Integrity NonStop NS-series systems,
and Integrity NonStop BladeSystems; system-specific instructions are described where needed.
NOTE: Except where noted, the term “CMS” in this procedure refers to either a Central
Management Server not on the dedicated maintenance LAN or a NonStop system console (on the
dedicated maintenance LAN) being used as a CMS for HP SIM. Steps that only apply when on
the maintenance LAN are marked as such.
1. Install and configure HP SIM, as described in the HP Systems Insight Manager Installation and
Configuration Guide for Microsoft Windows for the version of HP SIM you are installing. This
can be found by going to http://www.hp.com/go/insightfoundation-manuals, clicking the
“HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) Software link, and scrolling to find the version of the
manual that matches your HP SIM version.
NOTE: Follow these rules when entering the contact and site information:
The Contacts First Name and the Contacts Last Name must each be 30 or
fewer characters and must not contain any characters with accents.
The Contact Phone Number must be 20 or fewer characters and must not contain
any characters with accents.
The Site Name must not contain any characters with accents.
2. Install and configure HP Insight Remote Support Advanced, as described in the HP Insight
Remote Support Advanced CMS Configuration Guide for the version of Insight Remote Support
Advanced you are installing. This can be found by going to http://www.hp.com/go/
insightfoundation-manuals, clicking the “HP Insight Remote Support Advanced Software link,
and scrolling to find the version of the manual that matches your Insight Remote Support
Advanced version.
WARNING! When installing Insight Remote Support Advanced,
do not
install the Remote
Support Network Component (RSNC) during the installation process, if Insight Remote Support
Advanced is being installed on a NonStop system console (NSC) located on the dedicated
service LAN.
CAUTION: An important consideration to ensure uninterrupted dial-out capability is that the
WEBES component, installed during Insight Remote Support Advanced installation, has a
service obligation limit that expires one year after WEBES has been installed. Upon expiration,
incident reports are no longer delivered to the HP support center. To determine when your
version of WEBES will expire, and to extend that expiration date for up to five years, see
“Extend WEBES Expiration Date (page 19).
3. Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP for all NICs– this conditional step should be done if you are
running HP SIM on a NonStop system console on the maintenance LAN. The purpose of this
