Executive Summary The Legacy HP Superdome Health Management Solution In the Classic Health Monitoring Model, HP Server platforms use management processors such as Integrated Lights-Out 3 (iLO 3) to monitor fundamental hardware health such as voltage, temperature, power, and fans. In this classic design, the management processor signals software agents running on the OS when it detects a problem that needs an administrator’s attention.

By embedding the Analysis Engine in the hardware and firmware, HP removed the need for external diagnostic software.

Figure 1: HP Superdome 2 (SD2) Analysis Engine Error Logging Services Error Logging Services (ELS) is responsible for collecting all the raw data from all the error logs in all partitions and bundles the Error report and delivers to Core Analysis Engine to analyze the error. Core Analysis Engine Core Analysis Engine (CAE) resides on the Onboard Administrator and reads ELS error logs to perform analysis of the error.

Deactivation occurs when the Analysis Engine tells the running OS to immediately stop using a FRU or part of a FRU. Some components (such as CPU cores) can be deactivated while the OS continues to run, while others can’t and must be deconfigured on a reboot. When a service action is performed on a FRU, the Analysis Engine will acquit the FRU automatically if possible. Acquittal means the FRU is considered to have been serviced and is considered ready for service.

Figure 2: WS-Man Overview On receiving an indication from CAE, the WS-Man daemon running on HP Superdome 2 OA will iterate over its list of event subscribers. For each subscriber it will connect to that subscriber and deliver the event indication information directly from WS-Man daemon. Network applications, such as WEBES and HP SIM create subscriptions to WS-Man daemon which stores the subscription in the subscription database.

The key features provided by the CAE Event Viewer are:    Users can view events list and event details from the event archive. It facilitates filter-based events search from the event archive. Configure SNMP from the OA CLI: 1. ENABLE SNMP: Enables SNMP Trap support for the Onboard Administrator. 2. ADD SNMP TRAPRECEIVER [ "" ]: Adds a new trap receiver address to the SNMP configuration. WEBES subscribes to the SD2 OA WS-Man interface and to the HP-UX WBEM Providers using the system identification, IP address and login credentials it extracts from the HP SIM database (previously stored in that database by HP SIM discovery of these entities).
