Chapter 1: Managing Software Downloads and Installations
n Unknown The package is in an indeterminate state. For example, this can happen if a
package removal fails and the package is only partially removed.
Prior to synchronization with the HP Data Center, the following special status values may be
displayed:
n Initial Synchronization Scheduled This status displays when you selected an Automatic
Update Strategy during RSSWM installation and the package is scheduled to be
synchronized with the Remote Support Data Center, but your synchronization schedule has
not yet occurred. In addition to waiting for the regularly scheduled update, you can also
choose to synchronize this package immediately (see "Synchronizing Packages" on page 17)
or manually install the package through the RSSWM user interface to synchronize the
package with the HP Data Center.
n Manually Managed no status available This status displays when you selected Manual
on-line updates during RSSWM installation and this package has not yet been synchronized
with the HP Data Center. This package will stay at the current version and be managed by
you unless you change its Update Policy to Automatic on-line updates or choose to update
it by selecting the Install option in the Packages window.
The Status for packages may change when the HP Data Center is queried for package updates,
based on the Synchronization Schedule setting and the Update Policy. Additionally, the Status
may change if you execute the Check for Package Updates option on the Actions page or if
you click the Synchronize Now button on the Synchronization window.
l Actions
The Actions column shows actions that can be performed on a package. The following actions
are available:
n Install Either install or upgrade the package. If necessary, the package will be downloaded
to the system before installation.
n Remove Remove a package from the system.
Important: It is important to understand that removing a package removes the software
permanently unless it is later explicitly installed through the RSSWM GUI. A package
explicitly uninstalled will not be reapplied through scheduled updates even if the Update
Policy is Automatic on-line updates.
n Set Update Policy Change the Update Policy for the individual package. This Update Policy
will override the Global Update Policy. Packages using custom Update Policy display a triple
red asterisk
next to the Set Update Policy link.
n View Logs View the log files for package installation and removal.
Understanding the Update Policy
