Central Management Server Configuration Guide
Chapter 5: Remote Support Configuration Collector Services
l The CC column indicates if data was collected from a device successfully or not.
l The System Name column displays the system name for each member of the selected SAN
Collection.
l The System Type column provides a drop-down list that allows you to indicate the type of device
involved, or to indicate the operating system for server systems.
The System Type must be selected to enable options in the other configurable fields.
l The Connection Protocol column provides a drop-down list that allows you to indicate the
communication protocol to use when connecting to the device. The list will only show protocols that are
valid for the device type.
Depending on the selection you make in the drop-down list, some or all of the remaining fields become
enabled.
l The Credential Group column provides a drop-down list that allows you to associate this device with
a pre-configured credential group (if any exist), whereby group-wide authentication details are applied to
all devices in a group.
If you select a credential group, authentication columns are automatically populated with the
authentication details associated with that group.
l The Username or SNMP Read column allows you to provide a user name for server systems or
indicate read privileges for storage devices, for example, public or private.
l The Password or SNMP Write column allows you to provide a password for server systems or
indicate write privileges for storage devices.
l The Addl column provides an Edit button that is enabled for connection protocols that have additional
authentication parameters that must be completed, for example, separate root credentials.
l The Test Connection column provides a Test button that allows you to check the authentication
details you provided for a device or system by attempting to connect to the managed system.
When the test succeeds, the word Test will display in green; if it fails the Test will display in red.
For each device, you should indicate the type of device, select a communication protocol and provide
authentication details (or associate devices with a credential group) and click Save All Changes to
prepare devices for RSCC collections.
Running a SAN Configuration Collection
Configuration collections are scheduled to run for storage devices or SAN devices at a maximum of once
per week by means of the Tasks & Logs → View All Scheduled Tasks area in HP SIM. You can run
configuration collections manually by clicking Run Now, but it will fail if a collection (scheduled or manual)
has been run within the previous week.
Note: This restriction does not apply to configuration collections run on individual devices/systems by
means of the Options → Status Polling → Network/P4000/SAN/Server/Storage Configuration
Collection options in HP SIM.
Important: It is important to understand the difference between the HP SIM Task status (accessible
