A.05.80 HP Insight Remote Support Advanced Central Management Server Configuration Guide (October 2012)
Central Management Server Configuration Guide
Chapter 5: Remote Support Configuration Collector Services
using the HTTPS protocol. RSCC provides the core device-level communications method for data
gathering, while HP SIM and SMH provide device discovery, security, and RSCC UI hosting services.
After RSCC is configured on the CMS and the ACC software is installed and configured on the managed
systems (as directed in the Insight Remote Support Advanced Managed Systems Configuration Guide),
configuration collections can be run.
Important: An HP-UX server can be configured as both a managed system in its own right and as a
component of a Storage Area Network (SAN). The two different configuration collections (Advanced
and SAN) targeting the same HP-UX server are configured differently and gather different data from
the same device.
As an Advanced configuration collection target, the HP-UX server requires that:
l The ACC software be installed on the HP-UX server.
l A certificate-based trust relationship is established between HP SIM on the Central Management
Server (CMS) and the System Management Homepage (SMH) instance on the HP-UX managed
system. See "Exchanging Server Certificates for HP-UX Managed Systems" on page 79 for the
process or "RSCC Manual Certificate Exchange Process" on page 105 for the manual process.
As a SAN configuration collection target, the server requires:
l No additional software be installed on the managed system.
l That the HP-UX managed system's credentials must be configured in the SAN Services tab.
These targeted roles are completely independent except for the fact that they both reference the same
HP SIM system entry. A managed system can be targeted for either or both roles. Both of these
RSCC roles are also independent of the event monitoring provided by the Remote Support Client.
About SAN, Storage and Network Configuration
Collections
After the RSCC is configured on the CMS, configuration collections are run on server systems, storage
devices, network devices or on a combination of them grouped into user-defined Storage Area Networks
(SANs).
Configuration collections can be scheduled to run for SAN, storage and network devices at a maximum of
once per week by means of the Tasks & Logs → View All Scheduled Tasks area in HP SIM. You can
also run configuration collections manually by clicking Run Now.
Note: This restriction does not apply to configuration collections run on individual devices/systems by
means of the Options → Status Polling → Network/P4000/SAN/Server/Storage Configuration
Collection options in HP SIM.
