About HP SIM and HP Remote Support
Configuration Collector (RSCC)
HP SIM organizes systems, events, and devices into logical groupings called collections. The term
collection is also used in connection with the Remote Support Configuration Collector (RSCC), but in this
instance it refers to the collection of configuration data from storage devices or managed systems.
Throughout this document HP SIM collections are referred to as HP SIM collections, and RSCC
collections are referred to as configuration collections.
HP SIM and Insight Remote Support Advanced feature red, yellow, and green icons to represent system
or feature status throughout the user interface. The color of the icon indicates the health of the service or
the system in its current state. A change in state may change the icon to yellow and a failure of the service
or system will cause the icon to change to red. Move the mouse pointer over the icon for more information
about the particular state because its specific meaning is dependant on the component it
represents.Remote Support Configuration Collector Overview
The Remote Support Configuration Collector (RSCC) is one component of the Insight Remote Support
suite of applications. RSCC Services are accessed through the Options → Remote Support
Configuration and Services menu. RSCC allows you to configure global settings for configuration
collections in your enterprise. These configuration collections gather static configuration data from
supported devices (servers, storage devices, and switches) in your enterprise. The collected data is
securely transported to HP and analyzed to provide proactive support for systems or devices that may be
in danger of failing. The RSCC is updated regularly to extend support for new products as they become
available. This component is configured in the Remote Support Configuration and Services option in
HP SIM.
Additional collections can be gathered for HP-UX servers with the installation of the Advanced
Configuration Collector (ACC) onto the HP-UX server. ACC enables Advanced Configuration Collections,
Performance Collections, and Availability Collections for entitled devices. These services are only
available for HP-UX. See "About Advanced Server Configuration Collections" below for more information.
About Basic Server Configuration Collections
Basic Configuration Collections allow HP to collect basic system configuration information about your
managed system. You can disable these collections for each managed system on the Server Services
tab.
About Advanced Server Configuration Collections
The RSCC schedules and consolidates configuration collections from entitled HP-UX servers by means
of the Advanced Configuration Collector (ACC) component, which is installed on each HP-UX managed
system. The RSCC component of Insight Remote Support Advanced gathers data from HP-UX servers
