Install and Configure HP SIM
Caution: Due to resource constraints and requirement differences, HP SIM Storage Essentials plug-
in is not supported on the same physical CMS system as the Insight Remote Support Advanced plug-
in.
Complete all of the steps in this section before installing the Remote Support Software Manager
(RSSWM). Insight Remote Support Advanced can be used with SIMversions 7.0 and 7.1. The HP
Systems Insight Manager Installation and Configuration Guide for Microsoft Windows is required to
complete this section. See the HP SIM information library for more information:
http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/infolibrary.html#b2
1. lf this is a new installation of HP SIM, skip this step. However, if HP SIM is already installed, verify
that you have also installed the latest hot fixes that may be available. Visit the following URL for more
details:
http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/dl_windows.html#hotfixwin.
2. Install or upgrade the most current version of HP Systems Insight Manager according to the HP
Systems Insight Manager Installation and Configuration Guide for Microsoft Windows and in
accordance with the Insight Remote Support Advanced-specific CMS requirements in this document.
As of HP SIM version 6.0, RSSWM can no longer be installed with HP SIM, but a shortcut to the
Software Depot where you can download RSSWM can be created during the HP SIM install. See
"Installing Insight Remote Support Advanced for the First Time " on page 27 for more details about
installing RSSWM.
3. If you have not already done so, determine which systems in your environment will become managed
systems for Remote Support.
4. Configure relevant global settings for your environment (such as WBEM passwords) for any HP-UX
managed systems in the Global Protocol Settings page of HP SIM before you run discovery.
5. Make sure that Insight Management Agents are properly configured for any supported Windows or
Linux HP ProLiant managed systems.
Note: After Web Based Enterprise Services (WEBES) is installed on the CMS, whenever you
run discovery against a large number of managed systems, WEBES will require time to recognize
and update with the discovered system information provided by HP SIM.
If your managed systems include OpenVMS, Tru64 Unix devices, or EVA Devices, additional
WEBES configuration steps will be required and these are identified in the respective managed
system chapters of the Insight Remote Support Advanced Managed Systems Configuration
Guide.
6. Run Discovery, as directed by the HP Systems Insight Manager Installation and Configuration Guide
