Central Management Server Configuration Guide
Chapter 1: Insight Remote Support Advanced Prerequisites
Configuring the CMS to Use DNS
The redundant data center infrastructure utilizes name resolution for load balancing. For a CMS to fully
operate with the redundant sites, it is required to use DNS. This will enable the Global Server Load
Balancer (GSLB) to direct traffic to the appropriate site. If the customer chooses not to setup DNS on the
CMS and instead continues using IP address settings in the hosts file, they will lose service. The CMS
will only be able to communicate to the one site for which they have set IP addresses. There will be loss of
service when that one site is not available and GSLB is directing traffic to the other site. To be fully
supported, DNS must be configured on the CMS.
Complete the following procedure to configure the CMS to use Domain Name System (DNS):
Windows 2008
1. Logon to the system as a member of the Administrators group.
2. Start Control Panel.
3. Click the View network status and tasks link.
4. Click the Local Area Connection link.
5. Click Properties.
6. Select Internet Protocol Version 4.
7. Click Properties.
8. Choose either:
n Obtain DNS server address automatically (if appropriate for the customer environment)
n Use the following DNS server addresses
Specify one or two IP addresses for the DNS server(s) available in the customer environment.
