Remote Support Software Manager User Guide
Chapter 1: Managing Software Downloads and Installations
The Update Policy column displays how a package will be downloaded and installed. The Update
Policy is determined from settings applied by the user and by the package creators. The Update Policy
can have the following values:
n Automatic Updates – Packages are automatically downloaded and installed.
n Manual Updates – Packages are automatically downloaded, but must be manually installed.
The Update Policy value affects package updates, which in turn affects the status of packages in the
Packages window. As the status of packages available from HP changes, so do the actions available
for those packages. See "Understanding the Update Policy" on page 11 for more information about the
Update Policy.
l Download Size
The Download Size column indicates the size of a package.
l Installation Proposal
The Installation Proposal column indicates whether or not the package is necessary for Remote
Support Monitoring. The field is package-dependent and may include values such as:
n Compulsory – Indicates the package is required for Remote Support functionality or a dependency
for another component.
n Recommended – Indicates the package will install additional services beyond the base level. This
package type is not required for Remote Support functionality.
n Optional – Indicates the package applies to a subset of users, i.e. those with specific servers or
hardware in their environment.
n N/A – Indicates the package hosts an installer and installation instructions on the customer endpoint
but does not install an application. An example of this Installation Proposal type is an installer for
operating systems such as OpenVMS, Tru64, or HP-UX. Installers for these operating systems
may be placed on the endpoint so they can be distributed to other systems in the customer
environment manually or by some other automated process external to RSSWM, but the installers
are not run by RSSWM.
l Reboot
The Reboot column indicates whether or not the package will require a reboot after installation.
l RSSWM Package Status
The Status column tells the status of a package. Status can be any of the following values:
n Available – This package has not yet been downloaded and installed.
n Downloaded – This package has been downloaded but has not been installed. When a package is in
this state it is not visible in its target location on the filesystem, but has been placed in an RSSWM
internal holding area to decrease install time if you later decide to install the package.
n Installed – This package has been downloaded and installed. This state may display differently
depending on the type of package:
o
A document package may display Document is ready to read.
o
A software package may display Software is installed and operational or Installed, refer to
