Managing Software Downloads and
Installations
Introduction
The Remote Support Software Manager (RSSWM) is an application that facilitates the download and
installation of software packages and updates. The user can configure settings to allow more or less
automation of this process.
RSSWM installation is documented in the HP Insight Remote Support Advanced Central Management
Server Configuration Guide available at http://www.hp.com/go/insightremoteadvanced-docs.
Starting the RSSWM GUI
The Remote Support Software Manager (RSSWM) GUI can be started by clicking Start → All Programs
→ Hewlett-Packard → Remote Support Software Manager → Remote Support Software Manager
User Interface.
Note: When installing RSSWM with Insight Remote Support Advanced the RSSWM GUI will open
automatically after installation.
When RSSWM is started for the first time, what you see will depend on the update strategy you selected
during installation. If you selected Manual on-line updates, the Packages window will display
immediately (see "Figure 1.1. Pop-up Window" below). All packages that were bundled with the installer
and successfully installed will show a Manually Managed – no status available status, indicating that
these packages have not been synchronized with the HP Data Center and the RSSWM framework.
These packages will be managed by you and kept at their current version until you choose to manually
install them from the Packages window or you change their Update Strategy to Automatic on-line
updates (see "Understanding the Update Policy" on page 11).
If you selected Automatic on-line updates you will first see the pop-up window shown in "Figure 1.1.
Pop-up Window" below. If you click the OK button, you will be redirected to the Synchronization window
where you can synchronize immediately with the HP Data Center or change your Synchronization
Schedule (see "Synchronizing Packages" on page 18). If you click the Cancel button, the Packages
window will be displayed (see "Figure 1.2. RSSWM Packages Window" on next page.
