3 Understanding and Using Unreachable Device Notification
(UDN) Service
Unreachable Device Notification (UDN) performs reachability monitoring of HP customers devices and for
properly entitled Mission Critical customers. UDN submits incidents and provides notifications of unreachable
managed systems to HP Support Center and appropriate personnel at the customer site.
NOTE: The UDN product can be used locally on your CMS to monitor systems in your Enterprise. Unless
you have a Mission Critical contract and your HP Account Team has performed additional configuration to
UDN, your unreachable device incidents will not be submitted to HP.
3.1 Accessing UDN
Unreachable Device Notification can be configured and managed to monitor the reachability of your
managed systems. To access UDN:
1. Open a web browser from within your network or on the Central Management System (CMS).
2. Enter the URL: https://[CMS_HOST]:2381, where [CMS_HOST] is either the fully qualified hostname
or the IP address of the CMS.
3. The System Management Homepage (SMH) instance on the Central Management Server (CMS) will
load, click on the Unreachable Device Notification link.
4. The Unreachable Device Notification (UDN) homepage will load.
3.1.1 About the UDN Homepage
The UDN Homepage displays a status box that displays how many devices are configured for UDN monitoring
and whether those devices are enabled or disabled, reachable or unreachable, or in an unknown state. This
quick assessment is helpful to know the status of your enterprise.
The UDN Homepage allows you to access additional UDN configuration pages. Specifically, the UDN
service allows you to:
• View the current reachability status of monitored systems.
• Disable UDN monitoring.
• Manage the currently monitored systems.
• Configure the specifications of the UDN Service.
• Access a log of incidents submitted to HP.
