A.05.70 HP Insight Remote Support Advanced Operations Guide (October 2011, 5900-1727)
2.2 Understanding and Using the Remote Support System List
The Remote Support Entitlement tab allows you to assign or remove systems to Remote Support and perform
entitlement checks for single, multiple, or all systems in your enterprise. When you registered your enterprise
for Remote Support on the Remote Support Settings tab, if you did NOT select the
Enable systems for Remote
Support Services upon discovery
option, then you may have multiple eligible systems that are listed as
disabled for Remote Support services. Conversely, if you did choose
Enable systems for Remote Support
Services upon discovery
, then you may see systems listed that you would prefer to disable.
2.2.1 Enabling Systems for Remote Support
You can use one of the
Transport Enablement
options available from the Action List drop-down list to
manage remote monitoring for the listed systems. You can enable or disable all systems, or manage one or
more systems by selecting their associated check box and running an action from the Action List drop-down
list against the selected systems. For example, you may choose to not monitor your test systems, even if they
are eligible and supportable through warranties. When you have enterprise-wide maintenance tasks or
expected downtime, you may choose to use the
Disable All
option to temporarily discontinue remote monitoring
in your enterprise. If HP SIM has not completed Discovery before the RSE list is created, the list may exclude
a system that should be remote support eligible.
NOTE: Enabling monitoring may require 3-5 seconds per system.
2.3 Running a Remote Support Entitlement Check
The HP Remote Support Entitlement Check (RSEC) provides the status (yes/no) of entitlement for a Remote
Support eligible system. Eligible system types are listed in the
A.05.70 Insight Remote Support Advanced
Release Notes
available at http://www.hp.com/go/insightremoteadvanced-docs and are covered by a
Hardware Warranty or a Hardware Contract. Any system can have warranty data associated with it and
can be viewed in the HP SIM UI, but only systems on the Remote Support System list can be checked for
entitlement through Remote Support Entitlement tab. You can verify that an eligible system is actually
supported by using the Remote Support Entitlement Check (RSEC).
To run a Remote Support Entitlement Check for one or more systems, do the following:
1. In the HP SIM Interface select the Options menu.
2. Select Remote Support Configuration and Services, and in the Remote Support page, select the
Entitlement tab.
3. Select the check boxes associated with those systems that you want to check.
