Central Management Server Configuration Guide
Appendix A: Insight Remote Support Advanced Packages
Web-Based Enterprise Services (WEBES)
WEBES performs real-time service event analysis through product-specific rule sets. These rule sets are
updated regularly as improvements become available. WEBES is the central analysis software on the
CMS for automatic analysis of hardware events. WEBES works with the ELMC software that watches for
new events on the managed system, and then transmits those events to WEBES on the CMS to analyze
events.
Note: Only one instance of WEBES per CMS is required for enterprise-wide monitoring regardless of
the product to be monitored.
After WEBES is installed on the CMS, whenever you run discovery against a large number of managed
systems, WEBES will require time to recognize and update with the discovered system information
provided by HP SIM. It is helpful to configure relevant global settings for your environment, such as
WEBES passwords, after running discovery, but before installing WEBES through the Remote Support
Software Manager.
To prevent communication issues, if your managed systems include OpenVMS or Tru64 Unix devices,
download, but do not install WEBES until after you have downloaded, transported, and installed the ELMC
components on the OpenVMS or Tru64 managed systems.
Remote Support Configuration Collector (RSCC)
The Remote Support Configuration Collector (RSCC) schedules and consolidates configuration
information collections from entitled managed systems by means of the Advanced Configuration Collector
component installed on each managed system, or directly from SAN and storage devices for proactive
support purposes. The RSCC is updated regularly to extend support for new products as they become
available. This component is configured in the Remote Support Configuration and Services option in
HP SIM.
Supported and entitled HP-UX managed systems may have configuration, performance and availability
collections executed through the Remote Support Configuration Collector (RSCC) on the CMS working
with the Advanced Configuration Collector (ACC), which is hosted on the managed systems.
Note: HP SIM uses the term collection to refer to groupings of managed systems and events. The
term collection is also used in connection with the RSCC but in this instance refers to the process of
collecting configuration data from target storage devices, SANs, or server systems. Throughout this
guide, HP SIM collections are referred to as HP SIM collections and RSCC collections are referred to
as configuration collections.
Optional Components Installed on the CMS
The following sections explain the purpose of optional Insight Remote Support Advanced packages
available through RSSWM. The necessity of these packages will depend on your individual environment.
The packages described in this section are all downloaded and installed onto the CMS.
