Central Management Server Configuration Guide
Chapter 5: Remote Support Configuration Collector Services
For each device, you should indicate the type of device, select a communication protocol and provide
authentication details (or associate devices with a credential group) and click Save All Changes to
prepare devices for RSCC collections.
Running a Storage Devices Configuration Collection
Configuration collections are scheduled to run for storage devices or SAN devices at a maximum of once
per week by means of the Tasks & Logs → View All Scheduled Tasks area in HP SIM. You can run
configuration collections manually by clicking Run Now, but it will fail if a collection (scheduled or manual)
has been run within the previous week.
Note: This restriction does not apply to configuration collections run on individual devices/systems by
means of the Options → Status Polling → Network/P4000/SAN/Server/Storage Configuration
Collection options in HP SIM.
Important: It is important to understand the difference between the HP SIM Task status (accessible
by means of the Tasks & Logs → View Task Results menu item in HP SIM) and the status
displayed under the CC column in the Storage Services tab.
The HP SIM task status reflects whether the collection was successfully initiated and completed,
whereas entries in the CC column in the Storage Services tab indicate whether errors were detected
during a configuration collection.
You should also note that some collection-related errors are not reflected under either status area, for
example, login and connectivity failures.
Configuring Network Devices for Configuration
Collections
The Network Services tab allows you to view and update RSCS details for network devices in your
enterprise from which the Remote Support Configuration Collector (RSCC) can potentially collect
configuration data.
Creating Credential Groups for Network Devices
In large enterprises, for convenience many devices will often have identical authentication details. In such
cases, to avoid having to individually configure network devices, you can pre-configure a credential group
