A.05.70 HP Insight Remote Support Advanced Central Management Server Configuration Guide (October 2011, 5900-1725)
Chapter 4
Configuring Information for Managed
Systems
This chapter assumes that you have completed the Remote Support configuration and registration steps
in Chapter 4: “Remote Support Configuration and Registration”. The following sections explain how to
configure managed system information for Remote Support Monitoring.
Configuring Information Required for Remote
Support Monitoring
The following two subsections detail the processes required to enable Remote Support Monitoring. You
may use only one or both of these processes based on your specific enterprise and business needs. The
processes include:
l "Option A: Configuring Individual Managed Systems" on next page – you can use this process if you
have unique contract and/or contact information for one or more specific systems in your enterprise.
l "Option B: Configuring Multiple Systems (Collections)" on page 50 – you can use this process if you
have one or more collections of systems that share common configuration, (such as contact or
contract) information. Option B also includes a suboption of Pre-configuring Multiple Systems. You can
use this suboption if you want to reuse the same common configuration, (such as contact or contract)
information for new systems as they are discovered and added to a collection.
System configuration must be completed to fully enable Remote Support. Both Option A and Option B
require Contract and Warranty Information to provide the correct support information to the HP Support
Center. The details of this configuration information are unique to your enterprise, so it is advised that you
read through this chapter and collect the information before performing the configuration.
The Entitlement Information, explained below, is entered differently depending on which configuration
option you choose, so be sure to follow the appropriate steps as presented (for individual systems or
system collections) for your managed systems.
The information configured as Entitlement Information is required to both properly entitle your managed
systems' events for Remote Support and is used for an HP SIM Contract and Warranty Task. These are
two different processes that share the same configuration information.
In both of the system configuration options A and B, you will configure information in the Contract and
Warranty Information section and its subsection Entitlement Information. Entitlement Information is
always unique to individual systems and is not shared across the collection (with the exception of System
Country Code, which may or may not be common to a collection). Therefore, do not modify Entitlement
Information fields if you are using Option B or its suboption to configure or pre-configure collections. The
only time you might enter information into the Entitlement Information fields is when you are using Option
A to Configure an Individual System. Entitlement Information includes the following entries:
l Serial Number and Product Number, which are unique to individual systems and system types.
l System Site Code is required for the location where the support contract for this system was created.
