A.05.70 HP Insight Remote Support Advanced Central Management Server Configuration Guide (October 2011, 5900-1725)

Chapter 3
Remote Support Configuration and
Registration
Understanding Configuration and Registration
Important: This document assumes that you have read and completed all prerequisite work detailed
in the Insight Remote Support Advanced Managed Systems Configuration Guide. If you have not read
and completed the prework, stop now, obtain the guide found here:
http://www.hp.com/go/insightremoteadvanced-docs, and do not proceed with the Insight Remote
Support Advanced configuration until you have thoroughly read, understood, and implemented the
requirements.
The proper configuration of Insight Remote Support Advanced on the Central Management Server (CMS)
requires relevant contact and configuration information for BOTH the CMS and the managed systems that
will receive Remote Support.
These two distinct information sets are both entered and submitted through the HP SIM user interface (UI)
but in different windows. The CMS configuration information is entered and submitted through the Remote
Support Configuration and Services Settings tab. The directions for that process are in this chapter.
The managed systems configuration information is entered and submitted in the System Properties
screen, and the directions for that process are located in Chapter 5, Configuring Information for Managed
Systems.
The Remote Support registration process is presented in the examples in this chapter. However, the same
processes can be repeated to reconfigure or update contact and/or contract information for your CMS.
Registering the Remote Support Client and the
CMS
After Insight Remote Support Advanced successfully installs, HP SIM will automatically open to the
Settings tab on the Options Remote Support Configuration and Services screen. This screen is
where you will submit your CMS location and administrator contact information, select your notification
options, and register the CMS and Remote Support Client. The Remote Support Client must be registered
with the HP Support Center before events from managed systems can be transmitted by the Remote
Support Client to the HP Support Center. Note that until you fill out the required fields on this page, the
other tabs will be grayed out and inaccessible.
Note: Before the Settings page is opened after installation, you are asked to logon to System
Management Homepage (SMH). If the SMH logon is entered incorrectly, a subsequent successful
logon will send you to the SMH homepage rather than the Settings page. If this occurs, open HP SIM
and browse to Options Remote Support Configuration and Services and click the Settings
tab.
