Summary Insight Control (IC) server provisioning is hosted on a virtual appliance optimized to run the IC server provisioning application. There is not enough storage on the appliance to store the deployment software: vendor-supplied operating system distribution files, HP-supplied operating system distribution files, captured images, and the HP Service Packs for ProLiant (SPP). For this reason, a separate server, called the Media Server, is required in order to provision target servers.

The IC server provisioning appliance has a user interface for configuring the Media Server settings, and the IC server provisioning Media Server Setup Utility to automatically configure a Windows Media Server.

• Images is the directory where all captured images will be stored. • Media is the directory where all the operating system distribution files and SPPs will be stored as subdirectories. This is also the base directory for the HTTP server. Under this Media directory are separate directories for each distribution being served by the Media Server. Manually Creating a Windows-based Media Server From the IC server provisioning virtual appliance, the IC server provisioning Media Server Setup Utility is available for download onto a Windows-based server. This utility can be used to setup the Media Server via an interactive interface. However, this section provides information on setting up a Windows-based Media server without the utility. IC server provisioning requires two types of access to the Media Server.

To configure IIS to share operating system distribution files via HTTP: 1. Launch IIS Manager from the Media Server. If IIS is not installed, then go to Server Manager and Install Web Server (IIS) feature and enable IIS Management Console, Static Content, Directory Browsing role services. 2. Create Linux-based Media Server The instructions in this technical document are targeted for Red Hat and SUSE Linux operating systems. However, since the Linux Media Server is based on NFS, HTTPD, and SAMBA functionality, any type of Linux could be used providing that these services are configured comparably to what is described in this document. Use the user and password for the URI entries on the Media Server settings page of the IC server provisioning appliance as mentioned in the next section. Setup HTTP Access Using Apache Web Server for Linux and ESXi Deployments To Setup HTTP Access: 1. Check the web server. For Red Hat Linux versions, make sure the httpd rpm is installed and service is running.

Setup HTTP Access on Red Hat Linux Media Server 1. By default, web site files are located at /var/www/html. Since the Media Server is to be at /usr/MediaServer, follow the next steps to edit the Media Server path in the configuration file. 2.
