HP Insight Control server provisioning Adding Drivers to OS Build Plans

2
Summary
The Insight Control (IC) server provisioning appliance comes pre-packaged with driver packages based on the latest
shipping Support Pack for ProLiant (SPP) version. These driver packages are included in both the LinuxPE PXE image
included in the appliance and in the WinPE PXE image generated by the IC server provisioning WinPE Image Generation
Utility. They are also inserted during server provisioning.
These driver packages should be sufficient to support the target servers and operating systems listed in the IC support
matrix. However, there are circumstances where an additional or different driver is required:
A device is being used that is not supported by the SPP.
A driver that is included in the SPP is not working properly.
A device requires a user-provided driver.
The sections in this document provide instructions for adding or replacing drivers in the following instances:
The WinPE PXE image
During execution of a Windows OS Build Plan
On a target server running a Windows operating system
The LinuxPE PXE image
During execution of a Linux OS Build Plan
On a target server running a Linux operating system
This document assumes that the reader is familiar with the IC server provisioning appliance and has the appropriate
administrative rights to the appliance. It also assumes that the reader has access to a Windows-based machine to
perform the actions necessary to modify the WinPE PXE image, and a Linux-based machine to perform the actions
necessary to modify the LinuxPE PXE image and Linux DUDs.
Adding Windows Drivers
The following sections describe how to add drivers to the WinPE PXE image, during the execution of a Windows OS Build
Plan, or after an operating system is installed on a target server.
WinPE PXE Image
WinPE 3.1 PXE Image
The following prerequisites must be met for a Windows-based machine used to create the WinPE PXE image before
drivers can be added to a WinPE PXE image:
Hardware: HP ProLiant server with at least 2.0 GHz processor and 2 GB of memory, or an equivalent virtual
machine.
Operating System: Microsoft Windows® Server 2008 x64 or above. The server may not be a domain controller.

To add drivers to the WinPE 3.1 PXE image:
1. On a Windows server, create a temporary folder to be used as a workspace.
2. Browse to the IC server provisioning appliance from a machine running Windows.
