8 Packages
8.1 About packages
Packages are compressed bundles of files, usually a zip file. You can use packages to place files
on a target server during deployment. OS Build Plan steps are used to deploy packages to a target
server. When the packages are placed on the target server by Insight Control server provisioning,
they are decompressed (unzipped) at the location specified in the Build Plan step.
8.1.1 Deploying packages
Packages are placed and then decompressed on the target server via an OS Build Plan step. Simply
add the package as a step to an OS Build Plan in order to use it. See “Editing OS Build Plans
(page 54) for instructions.
8.2 Overview screen for packages
The Packages Overview screen displays information associated with the package selected in the
master pane list of packages.

Optional, customer-provided text that gives extra information about this package. HP-provided
packages include a description that is read-only.
Description
The literal name of the zip file. This can differ from the name in the left side master pane list of
packages.
File name
The file size of the zip file. The value is shown to one decimal point.Size

Initial the original creation
Latest the most current version
The date and time the package was saved to this revision.Date

A listing of the script code. This is a read-only view. This script will run before the package is
installed. Preinstallation scripts are optional. They must match the platform the package supports.
