7.1.1 Configuration file types
Configuration files can be used for operating system installations
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES)– AutoYaST
Red Hat and ESXi kickstart
Windows unattend files
and hardware configuration utilities
BIOS configuration
Array controller configuration
iLO configuration
7.1.2 Capturing configuration files
You may capture the configuration of a target server and store it in the Insight Control server
provisioning database so it may be used in future deployments. Use an OS Build Plan step to
capture configurations. See “Editing OS Build Plans (page 54) and “Capture hardware settings
of a server and deploy them to other servers (page 30) for instructions.
7.1.3 Deploying configuration files
Configuration files are placed on the target server via an OS Build Plan step so it can be used for
the remainder of the installation. Simply add the configuration file as a step to an OS Build Plan
in order to use it. See “Editing OS Build Plans (page 54) for instructions.
7.1.4 Modifying a configuration file on a target server
Script Build Plan steps can also be used to modify a configuration file after it has been placed on
the target server. For example the Inject Required Kickstart Settings script is used to inject network
settings into the kickstart answer file during a Red Hat deployment.
7.1.5 HP-provided configuration files
HP supplies configuration files with the IC server provisioning product. These configuration files
are read only and will have HP-provided set to Yes on the Overview page for the configuration
file in the General panel.
See “Copying configuration files (page 71) for instruction on copying an HP-provided configuration
file.
