NOTE: After your initial login to the appliance via the vSphere Console, you may use a browser
to access the appliance. However, you may also access the appliance via the Console if you wish.
2.5 Accessing your appliance from a browser for the first time
For the browsers Insight Control server provisioning supports, see the HP Insight Management
Support Matrix available at http://www.hp.com/go/insightcontrol/docs.
To access your virtual appliance from a supported browser, enter the host name or IP address you
entered on the Appliance Networking screen as the web address.
2.6 Setting up your Media Server
These instructions are for using the HP Insight Control server provisioning Media Server setup utility
to create your Media Server. Instructions for manually setting up a Media Server are available in
an Insight Control server provisioning white paper, found at http://www.hp.com/go/insightcontrol/
docs.
2.6.1 Introduction to the Media Server
Separate from the Insight Control server provisioning virtual appliance is a server that holds
deployment software. This server is called the Media Server.
OS Build Plans use the software on the Media Server to provision managed servers. Software
(media) on the Media Server can include vendor-supplied OS distribution files, HP-supplied OS
distribution files, captured images, and firmware and driver updates such as HP Service Packs for
ProLiant (HP SPP).
Because Insight Control server provisioning is hosted on a virtual appliance optimized to run the
IC server provisioning application, there is not enough storage on the appliance to host deployment
software. For this reason, a separate Media Server is required in order to provision servers.
The Media Server has the following requirements:
Windows OS distributions must be hosted on a Windows file share.
Linux and ESXi OS Build Plans require their OS distribution files to be served by HTTP.
Windows image capture and installation is done with Windows ImageX, which requires a
Windows file share for storing captured images.
When using the Insight Control server provisioning Media Server setup utility to set up your Media
Server, the Media Server will be hosted on a Windows system.
