NOTE: New WinPE 4.0 service OS affects the OSs supported on the servers.
Beginning with this release, Insight Control server provisioning has started using the WinPE
4.0 service OS. WinPE 4.0 is required to install Windows on HP servers running in UEFI
(Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) boot mode. The most recent version of HP embedded
Intelligent Provisioning firmware also contains the WinPE 4.0 service OS to support the new
servers that run in UEFI mode. But, WinPE 4.0 cannot be used to install Windows 2008 or
2008 R2, so customers who boot to the WinPE 4.0 service OS using PXE or Intelligent
Provisioning cannot have support for these two OSs.
To reduce the impact on customers who still require these older Windows OSs, the option is
to continue to use the WinPE 3.1 service OS instead of WinPE 4.0 provided.
This version of the appliance comes with two WinPE generation utilities:
◦ One that generates the new WinPE 4.0, which can be downloaded from a running
appliance.
◦ Another that generates WinPE 3.1, which is in the utilities directory of the master zip file
or USB media.
