First time setup issues
After entering First Time Setup networking information, the console may display either the Activity,
Settings, or Servers page before rebooting.
After you enter the network information on the console during initial appliance setup and click OK,
the Applying network settings screen displays for sometime. An another screen from the UI, an
error message or messages may also appear. This happens because it takes sometime for the
appliance to shut down. Do not do anything when this happens. Wait patiently and the appliance
reboots after one or two minutes.
On Hyper-V, server provisioning appliance cannot be configured with 32GB of memory or more.
When setting VM appliance resources on a Hyper-V host, you cannot set the memory of the
appliance to be 32GB or higher, as this causes a kernel panic.
Suggested action
Configure your appliance with less than 32GB of memory. The optimal configuration for the
appliance at scale is 30GB memory and eight CPUs. The VMware appliance does not have this
restriction.
Upgrade issues
Documentation error in Installation Guide fixed in latest edition
Editions 1 and 2 of the Insight Control server provisioning 7.3 Update 1 Installation Guide, including
the version shipped with the 7.3.1 media, incorrectly states that the Internet Explorer version 8
(IE8) is an acceptable method for uploading the first appliance patch file to the appliance. IE8
does not work and must not be used. IE 9 is the only browser that can upload the initial patch file.
If you do not have IE9, you can use a REST call from the Windows or Linux command line to upload
the file. A new version of the Installation Guide is posted to the web site at http://www.hp.com/
go/insightcontrol/docs. This updated version contains detailed information about using the REST
call to upload the file and a new sample Windows PowerShell script. Download this latest version
and follow the instructions.
Critical browser restrictions when uploading patch files to appliance
A combination of known appliance issues and browser file size limitations creates very specific
restrictions regarding the browsers that can be used when uploading the patch files to the appliance.
Because of these restrictions, you may find it easy to upload the files using documented REST calls
from the Windows or Linux command line instead of using a browser.
Suggested action
To upload the patch files:
The first update patch file: IC-server-provisioning-7.2.2-patch.bin
The only browser that can be used to upload the first patch file to the appliance is Internet Explorer
9. If you do not have access to IE9, HP recommends using one of the REST calls documented in
