HP Insight Control for Linux 7.1 Release Notes
2.5.2 Installing RHEL/SLES on servers with HP SmartArray B120i/B320i RAID
controllers
To install a RHEL or SLES operating system on a server configured with an HP SmartArray B120i
or B320i RAID controller (that is enabled in the BIOS), you must install the RAID driver if you want
to use RAID. The HP RAID driver that supports the HP B120i and B320i controllers must be installed
after RHEL or SLES operating system installation, but before system reboot.
Use the following procedure:
1. Ensure that the RHEL or SLES operating system that you are installing was downloaded and
staged in the Insight Control for Linux respository.
NOTE: If you are installing SLES11 SP1, download the SLES11 SP1 KISO (version 1.1).
For information on how to copy the KISO into the Insight Control for Linux repository after
downloading it, see the section titled “Copying software to the Insight Control for Linux
repository” in the HP Insight Control for Linux User Guide.
2. Download the customized initrd for the OS that you are installing. For more information,
see the section titled “Additional prerequisites for certain ProLiant servers” in the HP Insight
Control for Linux User Guide.
3. Create the HP Kernel modules gzip file:
a. Download the latest SPP for the Gen8 servers.
b. Unzip the SPP file with the unzip command:
# unzip SPP*.zip
c. Mount the SPP ISO:
# mount -o loop SPP*.iso /mnt
d. Change directory to swpackages:
# cd /mnt/hp/swpackages
e. Place these RPMs in a gzipped tar file; for example, hp-raid.tgz:
# tar zcf /tmp/hp-raid.tgz *hpvsa*.rpm
These files should resemble the following:
