1. Run the Options→Security→Credentials→System Credentials task, specifying the
MP as the target,
2. Select the MP in the table, then select Edit System Credentials….
3. Enter the sign-in credentials for the MP.
Setting up a system for monitoring
Now set up the new system for monitoring. For information on how to do so, see Chapter 4, Installing
and setting up managed systems” in the HP Insight Control for Linux User Guide.
After setting up the managed system for monitoring, see the section titled “Starting management and
monitoring services” in Chapter 5, Configuring monitoring services, in the HP Insight Control for Linux
User Guide. A key step in the procedure is running the Options→IC-Linux→Configure
Management Services task.
What is monitored and what is not
Nagios and Performance Dashboard are the primary monitoring tools for Insight Control for Linux.
These tools collect data from two sources:
• The mond daemon
• The management processor.
mond data collection is supported, but data collected through the MP is not, so only Linux data is
collected. This includes:
• Node Info
• System Alerts
• Load Average.
Data from services, such as environmental and other sensor data, is not collected.
For an overview of Nagios, see the section titled “Nagios Overview” in the HP Insight Control for
Linux User Guide.
The Insight Control for Linux shownode info command reports the MP type and the IP for the MP as
Unknown. For more information on the shownode command, see Chapter 16, Using the command
line to view managed system status, of the HP Insight Control for Linux User Guide.
Most other functionality should be the same as for HP hardware.
