HP Insight Control Virtual Machine Management 6.0
C Customizing virtual machines
HP SIM permissions
For operations that involve two operating systems, authorization must be granted on both systems. For
example, to permit a virtual machine to be copied to another host, authorization to copy virtual machines
must be granted on both the virtual machine and the destination virtual machine host.
As with any HP SIM tool, you can authorize users to use a tool on a certain system. For example, a user
might be allowed to start and stop virtual machines in a training lab while being restricted from using other
tools on those virtual machines.
Because unconfigured virtual machines are not listed in the All Systems table, it is not possible to assign
authorizations on those virtual machines. To run tools on unconfigured virtual machines, the user must have
the appropriate authorization on the virtual machine host.
For more information on permissions in HP SIM, see the
HP SIM Technical Reference Guide.
Creating a system collection
HP SIM enables you to create system collections based on system properties, such as system type, product
model, operating system version, or contact information. You can use this feature to organize your virtual
machines into one or multiple collections to simplify access and organization.
IMPORTANT: You must have administrative rights in HP SIM to create system collections.
To set up system properties for a single system, on the System Pag e Tools and Links tab, click Edit
System Properties.
To set up system properties for multiple systems, select Options→System Properties→Set System
Properties.
