The virtual machines are recovered successfully on to the target host from the source host.
Handling automatic prefailure events using the Set Alternate host feature
Whenever any prefailure events are generated on any of the systems in the System Collection Prefailure
VMware ESX Collection, the virtual machines running on this host are recovered to the alternate host.
Handling semi-automatic events using the Set Alternate host feature
In semi-automatic mode of event handling, ensure the SMTP settings in the OptionsEventsAutomatic
Event HandlingEmail Settings in HP SIM. When a prefailure event occurs, you are notified through
email. When you receive the email, the following steps must be executed to handle the prefailure event:
Failed host recovery
The failed host recovery feature enables you to recover virtual machines of a failed Citrix XenServer host
and leverage the ability of Systems Insight Manager to detect hardware failures
VMware ESX Server
For VMware ESX virtual machines, use the failed host recovery feature if you do not use the VMware vCenter
High Availability (HA) solution.
IMPORTANT: In a setup where both the failed host recovery feature and VMware vCenter HA or VMware
Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS) are configured, the results might be unpredictable because both
management tools try to control the same resource.
IMPORTANT: Do not configure both the failed host recovery feature and the VMware HA or VMware DRS
solution for the same VMware ESX hosts.
IMPORTANT: Do not configure both the failed host recovery feature and the VMware HA or VMware DRS
solution for the same VMware ESX hosts.
If the virtual machine being moved is part of the vCenter cluster, then a warning message appears.
When a failed host recovery process is being performed for virtual machines failing over to the alternate
hosts, the moved virtual machines might appear as Orphaned in the vCenter. If this occurs, delete the
orphaned nodes from vCenter.
In the failed host recovery procedure, the running virtual machine guest will be recovered as powered off
state in the target host. This is an expected behavior.
Citrix XenServer
The failed host recovery feature enables you to recover a failed Citrix XenServer host and leverage the ability
of HP SIM to detect hardware failures.
Do not configure both the failed host recovery feature and the Citrix XenServer HA for the same Citrix
XenServer hosts.
