HP Insight Control Virtual Machine Management 6.0

To make these conversions, your setup must meet the following prerequisites:
Template or backup migration on the VMM Agent-based VMware ESX virtual machine host requires
VMM Agents to be running on the managed nodes. Otherwise, you cannot perform a migration.
To migrate all the templates on the specified VMware ESX virtual machine host, the vCenter Server
credentials must be entered and the host must be associated with the vCenter Server.
Before migrating the template or backup on the VMM Agent-based virtual machine hosts, ensure that
enough space is available on the disk on the VMware ESX virtual machine host to decompress the
template or backup virtual disks.
Template or backup migration on the Insight Control virtual machine management Agent-based VMware
ESX virtual machine host requires older Insight Control virtual machine management Agents to be running
on the managed nodes. Otherwise, you cannot perform a migration.
To deploy the Insight Control virtual machine management certificate onto the Agent-based VMware ESX
virtual machine hosts, before performing either a template or backup migration.
1. Click DeployDeploy Drivers, Firmware and AgentsDeploy VMM Agent Certificates ESX
menu.
If the virtual machine host is a a VMware ESX host and is Agent-based, page 1 of this menu performs
a target verification.
2. From page 2, click Run Now. The task results page displays the certificate deployment job results.
To perform the migration:
1. Select a VMware ESX host on which the migration is to be performed.
2. Depending on what you are migrating, select either of the following:
If you are migrating a template, from the HP SIM menu, select DeployVirtual
MachineTemplatesUpgrade Templates on ESX.
If you are migrating a backup, from the HP SIM menu, select DeployVirtual
MachineBackupsUpgrade Backups on ESX.
3. Insight Control virtual machine management verifies that the virtual machine host is VMware ESX and
that it contains older templates or backups. To proceed, click Next.
4. Insight Control virtual machine management displays a list of available templates or backups to upgrade.
Select the templates or backups that you wish to upgrade, and then click Run Now. To see the job
results and log file links for each migration, see the task results page.
NOTE: Migrating backups on Agent-less VMware ESX virtual machine hosts is not required.
Insight Control virtual machine management is agentless and does not require an agent to be deployed on
the VMware ESX 3.0.
x
and 3.5 virtual machine hosts. HP recommends that you stop any agents from the
setup by ensuring that the hpvmmct service is not running on the ESX hosts.
To verify that the service is running, execute the following command on the VMware ESX server console:
service hpvmmcntsvc status
If Insight Control virtual machine management is running, execute the following command to stop the service:
service hpvmmcntsvc stop
Deploying a virtual machine guest template
Insight Control virtual machine management enables you to deploy a previously created virtual machine
template to create a virtual machine guest. A virtual machine template is an image of a complete virtual
machine operating system, configuration, and all relevant virtual disk information. The template is needed
to create and register a new virtual machine on a virtual machine host with the same virtualization technology.
A template does not contain the serial number (UUID) and MAC address of the virtual machine guest used
to create the template.
1. From the HP SIM toolbar, select DeployVirtual MachineTemplates Deploy Virtual Machine
Template.
2. Select a template, and then click Next.
