HP Insight Control Virtual Machine Management 6.0

NOTE: For virtual machines using VMware ESX, you cannot set the target folder. The default name
and path are used.
If the selected virtual machine is associated with a VMware ESX Server and:
The virtual machine is currently running, a Live Move for VMware ESX Server using VMware
VMotion Technology is performed.
The virtual machine is stopped, SAN Move or Move appears in the Move Type column. If the
target host is in a SAN, a SAN Move can be performed.
A SAN move involving Microsoft Hyper-V servers must meet the following prerequisites:
The source and destination hosts must be Microsoft Hyper-V servers.
The virtual machine host can be in off, suspend, or pause state.
The virtual machine host must not be HA enabled.
The virtual machine configuration and .vhd files must be stored in cluster shared volumes.
The virtual machine host must not have an RDM disk attached to it.
To perform a Live Move, you must configure VMware vCenter Server settings. For more information,
see the "Configuring VMware vCenter Server" topic in the of the
HP Insight Software Installation and
Configuration Guide
.
A Live Move involving Microsoft Hyper-V servers must meet the following prerequisites:
The source and destination virtual machine hosts must be Microsoft Hyper-V servers.
The virtual machine host must be HA enabled.
The virtual machine host must be running.
5. Specify a name for the target virtual machine guest or accept the default selection, and then specify the
target path for the virtual machine guest and the disk. The target folder on the virtual machine host must
be empty.
Microsoft requires that each virtual machine guest has a unique virtual machine name. If virtual machine
disks or configuration files exist with the designated name, then an error occurs, and the move operation
fails.
6. Verify that adequate available disk space exists on the target virtual machine host to accommodate the
total transport volume, consisting of several disks and configuration files.
7. Click Next.
8. Verify the displayed details of the move operation, and then click Run Now.
When the move is complete, the new virtual machine guest is registered to the target virtual machine host.
The virtual machine guest status is Disabled ( ). Start the moved virtual machine guest using Insight Control
virtual machine management as necessary.
Insight Control virtual machine management does not delete virtual machine files after a move. For errors
that might occur after performing a move or SAN move, see the A virtual machine guest appears in VMware
vCenter Server multiple times topic in the Troubleshooting section. For errors that might occur after performing
a Live Move, see the Live Move fails after SAN move topic in the Troubleshooting section.
You might need to reconfigure the virtual network connections on the moved virtual machine guest.
The Task Results page for a virtual machine move or copy involving either Xen on RHEL or Xen on SLES does
not display the remaining time for operation completion.
NOTE: Moving a virtual machine or restoring a virtual machine from backup in Citrix XenServer will change
the virtual machine UUID, BIOS ID, and MAC address.
NOTE: Move destinations for Linux Xen guests are limited based on the virtualization mode of the guest.
For fully-virtualized guests, only destination hosts with the same hardware virtualization modes as the source
