1 Release description
1.1 Description
Insight Control for Linux is a Linux-hosted management product for HP ProLiant servers in enterprise
environments and high performance workgroups. Insight Control for Linux is designed as a plug-in
to HP Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM).
In addition to advanced monitoring features, Insight Control for Linux provides a rich set of remote
software deployment features that enable you to deploy supported versions of Red Hat Enterprise
Linux (RHEL), Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES), VMware ESX and ESXi, or other
unsupported variants of Linux operating systems over a network connection to managed systems.
The Insight Control for Linux software is installed on the server you chose to be the Central
Management Server (CMS). You connect to HP SIM on the CMS and all HP SIM and Insight Control
for Linux tasks and operations are initiated from the CMS.
1.1.1 Release overview
This release of Insight Control for Linux is an ISO image that you can use to upgade from Insight
Control for Linux 7.1.

If the CMS is already installed with Insight Control for Linux version 7.1, the installation script uses
the ISO image to automatically upgrade the CMS to Insight Control for Linux version 7.1 Update
1.
If you have an earlier version of Insight Control for Linux, first install Insight Control for Linux version
7.1, then upgrade to version 7.1 Update 1

The Insight Control for Linux 7.1 Update 1 distribution medium (DVD or ISO image) contains the
following software products and documentation:
• HP Systems Insight Manager 7.1 Update 1
• HP Insight Control for Linux 7.1 Update 1
• HP Insight Control power management 7.1
• HP Insight Control virtual machine management 7.1
• The source code for the open source products integrated with Insight Control for Linux
• A file named README.mht in the HP directory that describes how to obtain the Insight Control
for Linux documentation set and the documentation for related products.
1.1.2 How to obtain the ISO image
The Insight Control for Linux 7.1 Update 1 ISO image is available for download from the HP
Software Depot home page for Insight Control for Linux:

1.1.3 Software availability in native languages
The Insight Control for Linux product is available only in the US English language.
