HP Insight Control for Linux 7.1 Installation Guide

HP provides script templates in the /opt/repository/script directory for you to review
for suggested uses. The directories and scripts are named: postdeploy_example.sh,
predeploy_example.sh, postcapture_example.sh, and precapture_example.sh.
You are free to use your own script names.
Microsoft Windows interactive installation using generic ISO mounting
You can install a generic ISO- or Microsoft Windows to iLO-based servers. Furthermore, you
can use Systems Insight Manager capabilities for monitoring Windows.
Parallelized (Avalanche) deployment for scaling productivity in large environments
Large scale deployment solves the problem of bandwidth contention by transferring a Linux
image to a single server in each switch or enclosure. The single server transfers the image to
the rest of the servers that are connected to the same switch or enclosure. The large scale
deployment feature enables you to deploy a Linux image to a large number of servers in a
fraction of the time it would take with a standard image deployment.
Booting managed systems through virtual media
Virtual Media allows you to discover a server, install an OS on a server, capture an OS image
from a server, or deploy an OS image to a server without the use of PXE or DHCP. Instead of
booting a kernel and RAM disk using PXE, Insight Control for Linux creates a small bootable
ISO containing the kernel and RAM disk which, when the server is rebooted, is mounted by
the iLO as if it were a physical CD or DVD.
The CMS securely logs into the Integrated Lights Out (iLO) MP and configures the virtual media
feature so that the server boots securely from an ISO image located on the CMS. That ISO
image contains the network information for that server so that DHCP is never required. Using
virtual media with Insight Control for Linux requires you to manually enter the network
information for each server through the OptionsIC-LinuxNetwork Configuration Editor on
the CMS.
See the HP Insight Control for Linux User Guide for information about configuring and using
virtual media.
Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) installation
Like PSPs, service packs represent OS-specific bundles of optimized drivers, utilities, and
management agents that provide you with a system software baseline that has been tested
and verified by HP. Additionally, the Service Packs for ProLiant also contain firmware. After
you download an SPP, and register it in and copy it to the Insight Control for Linux repository,
you can use Insight Control for Linux to deploy the SPP to managed systems.
NOTE: HP encourages the use of SPPs for HP ProLiant servers.
ProLiant Support Pack (PSP) installation
Insight Control for Linux enables you to download and copy PSPs to the Insight Control for
Linux repository and deploy the PSPs to managed systems. Systems Insight Manager uses PSPs
to gather configuration data for system management.
Boot to a Linux rescue mode
Insight Control for Linux enables you to boot a managed system to a rescue Linux-based
environment containing basic management and configuration tools.
Run SSH commands and Linux scripts on managed systems
Insight Control for Linux enables you to run a user-specified Linux command or script through
SSH on one or more managed systems.
