HP Insight control for Linux 6.2 Installation Guide

Obtaining a free trial license
The Free Trial button on the Insight Control for Linux product website (www.hp.com/go/ic-linux)
downloads an Insight Control for Linux ISO image for a trial evaluation period. If you register
for the trial evaluation, you receive a trial license key that enables you to test and evaluate Insight
Control for Linux for a limited time period on a limited number of managed systems.
The trial license key delivers evaluation keys for the same HP products that are included on a
purchased Insight Control for Linux product license.
At the appropriate point in this document, you will follow a procedure to add the trial license
key to Systems Insight Manager, which enables you to use Insight Control for Linux and its
integrated HP products.
After the evaluation period expires, you must purchase additional Insight Control for Linux
licenses from HP if you want to continue using the product.
1.3.1 Licensing changes might require an additional step to obtain virtualization and
power management functionality
When you purchase an Insight Control for Linux license and you apply that license to a version
of Insight Control for Linux earlier than Version 6.0 (such as Insight Control for Linux Version
2.11), virtualization and power management features are not be properly licensed. This is due
to a change in licensing for Insight Control for Linux that occurred in Version 6.0.
HP strongly recommends upgrading Insight Control for Linux Version 2.11 (or earlier) to Insight
Control for Linux Version 6.0 or later before applying the additional licenses. For customers
under a current support agreement, Insight Control for Linux Version 6.0 is available for download
for free at the following website:
http://www.hp.com/go/ic-linux
To determine if the new license (for Insight Control for Linux Version 2.11) or the old license (for
Insight Control for Linux Version 6.00) has been purchased:
For the license shipped before January 15, 2010 - when the license entitlement is redeemed
to obtain the license keys, four license keys will be received.
For the license shipped after January 15, 2010 - when the license entitlement is redeemed to
obtain the license keys, two license keys will be received.
If you purchase one or more additional Insight Control for Linux licenses after Insight Control
for Linux Version 6.0 is released on January 15, 2010 (1/15/2010) and it is applied to Insight
Control for Linux Version 2.11 (or earlier), contact HP Customer Support.
HP Customer Support will provide information on how to enable the additional virtualization
and power management license keys for Insight Control for Linux Version 2.11 (or earlier).
